Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs to file Schedule FA?+

Any resident taxpayer who holds foreign assets or has signing authority in a foreign account typically needs Schedule FA disclosure in their ITR. RNORs generally have a narrower disclosure requirement than RORs.

What foreign assets are usually disclosed?+

Common disclosures include foreign bank accounts, financial interests, equity in foreign entities, foreign immovable property, trusts, and signing authority in foreign accounts. Use the ITR utility fields to match the correct sub-schedule.

Which ITR forms contain Schedule FA?+

Schedule FA is typically reported in ITR-2 and ITR-3, depending on the taxpayer's income profile. It is not used in simpler return forms designed for straightforward resident income cases.

Does Schedule FA apply to RNOR?+

RNORs generally have limited foreign income exposure compared with RORs, but the precise disclosure requirement depends on the asset, the residency status, and the relevant ITR instructions for the year.

Why use a guided assistant for Schedule FA?+

The structure is easy to get wrong because the ITR utility uses multiple foreign-asset sub-schedules. A guided assistant reduces omissions and helps you produce copy-ready disclosures faster.
